Bathroom Updates that Add a Touch of Class

Looking to freshen the look of that dated ugly bathroom without spending a fortune on a remodel?  We’ve found a few great ideas that interior designers use to give old spaces a quick and easy facelift.

Funky Mirror: Head out to the antique market or a few garage sales, and hunt down a great looking picture frame.  Sand it and give it coat of paint, then sand again for a distressed look.  Put it over the existing mirror, or around the existing mirrored cabinet to add a little pop without spending much cash.

Stencil: Create an accent wall by stenciling a geometric design onto the existing paint.  Don’t pick a design that’s too elaborate.  Most bathrooms are small, so a good choice is a pattern that’s large and “blocky” but simple.  Make sure to use glossy, and give it the proper amount of drying time, and you’ll feel like you’re in a brand new space!

Improve Storage: If you’re unhappy with just one large, gaping area as your vanity storage, head over to IKEA or the Container Store and find some fun storage solutions that can offer you more ways to organize.  Having all toiletries and cleaning supplies as well as towels and bathroom necessities within easy reach can go along way to making you content with your existing bathroom layout.

Think About Repurposing Furniture: Mount an old-fashioned folding step stool on the wall and use as shelving.  Replace a broken or dated vanity with a rustic coffee or occasional table by drilling holes for the plumbing and VOILA! You’ve got a brand new look in just a couple of hours.

Create A Tailored Look: Bead board is pretty inexpensive and can add a note of architectural polish when placed on the bottom half the wall behind the vanity and/or commode. It’s a fairly simple way to make your home look a little more “designer” without investing too much time or money.

Enjoy freshening up that dated “WC” with a few of these easy fixes.
